This netbook is operating under Kernel version 3.5.0 (point whatever is current)

The installation history of this machine:
  • I initially started using Ubuntu 10.04 on this machine ( I had been using Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 6000 since January 2007.) I checked out the Ubuntu netbook release and didn't like it -- I like switching between desktops, not applications.
  • In 2010 when Linux Mint came out with their rolling distribution of Debian, I switched from Ubuntu to Linux Mint.
  • In April of 2012, my work place changed out their wireless router. For some reason, LMDE Xfce no longer connected there, while connecting everywhere else with no problem. Linux Mint 13 Xfce had just been released, and I found the wireless worked fine with this edition. Thus I switched.
  • In April of 2013, I switched to Ubuntu 12.04 after playing around with it on the Dell.
Things that worked from the get-go:
  • Wireless
  • Suspend & Hibernate
  • USB
  • Fn Function Keys
  • Sound
    FYI:
  • I always do a fresh install.
  • I have partitioned my hard drive with a seperate partition for the /home folder. This saves my having to copy all my personnel data back onto my computer.
  • For this to work your computer name and user name must be the same from the previous installation.
  • You need to designate /home in the partition editor but do not format it as you will lose all your data.
